The day began at Peartree Services in Oxford and the Convoy made its way along the A40 in bright sunshine to Pitstop of Brize Norton where we met up with those coming from other directions and Jeff and Craig from Mini Magazine. The kettle was boiled and bacon and sausages were thrown onto the barbeque !! After a quick safety brief, engines were health checked and compression tested before being lowered into the rollers for the shoot out to begin. First up was Road Runner’s unmistakeable yellow 1380 which screamed with joy through the entire rev range producing an admirable bench mark of 78bhp. A few hiccups to the barbeque gas supply saw breakfast bypassing lunch and being re-allocated to an early afternoon slot, but it was well received by the hungry crowd, self serve tea and coffee was available all day. Road Runners hard to beat target remained until the distinctive black debumpered 1380 of fishey798 hit the rollers with an impressive 81bhp. Although the car had only been tuned at pitstop the day before it managed an improvement from 79bhp overnight!! All of the cars entered were given printouts of their individual Bhp and suggestions of what could be improved. At close of play, fishey 798 took the Large Bore Trophy with Minili claiming top spot for the Small Bore group. Results: Large bore fishey798 - 1380 - 81bhp Road Runner - 1380 - 78bhp Bevan-1275 SPI 58bhp SimonUK - 1275 Carb stg1 - 55bhp tomsbluemini - 1275 MPi - 55bhp Mini_Magic - 1275 MPi - 54bhp KermitStu - 1275 MPI - 54bhp the.stroker - cooper 1275 spi - 54bhp Roo - 1275 - 47bhp (running 3/4 throttle) Rugmaster - 1275 spi - 30bhp Small bore Minili - 998 stg1 - 43bhp BoboGib - 998 stg1-ish - 42bhp Munnracing - 998 stg1-ish - 38bhp CAU998 - 998 - 37bhp Our hosts for the Day, Pitstop of Brize Norton then placed one of their Race Prepped Miglia cars on to the Rolling Road for a demonstration run producing 113bhp at the wheels and a phenomenal sound to boot. Pitstop extended their congratulations for presenting such a high standard of cars. We look forward to returning next year with more cars and improvements on our power outputs!!!! We had intended on taking part in a “Cotswold Cruise” at the end of the session but due to overrunning this was reduced to a “Windrush Valley Walz” taking a short drive to Burford, then through a selection of picturesque villages. The “Waltz” Terminated fittingly Outside British Motor Heritage’s Factory in Witney. TMF’s South Central Shootout will Return next year!!! Our thanks go to all at Pitstop of Brize Norton and Mini Magazine. |
